Starting 7 May 2020 the GRASSI Museum für Völkerkunde zu Leipzig is open again regularly from 10 to 18 (except Mondays). Please note that for the time being only the special exhibition "Scenes of life" is on display.


I look forward to familiarizing myself with the ethnological collections and the biographies of the objects. The transcultural dialogue with the various interest groups and communities is particularly important to me.

Our collection and its History

The objects you can see in the permanent exhibition belong to various collections. Discover some of their background here.


The Leipzig Museum für Völkerkunde was founded on a collection by civil servant and librarian Gustav Klemm. Today its multiple collections comprise about 200.000 objects.
