A solidary art and handicraft project
In cooperation with #engmaschig - initiative for handicrafts and sustainable textiles - the project connects handicrafts with an activist position. The project’s central symbol and activist element is the hand signal for help in cases of domestic violence, which the Canadian Women’s Foundation established in 2020. Because of the viral circulation of the sign via TikTok the US police saved a 16-year old kidnapped girl in November 2021. By implementing the symbol we respond to this recent incident.
Design a piece of fabric for a large art installation and join us in making a statement of solidarity and community during times of isolation and social distancing. Take part in one of our Online-Workshops on 5th & 11th December (3-4 pm). Alternatively, you can design a fabric based on one of our short set of instructions. If you are interested, just send us a short e-mail or call us to receive a package filled with instructions, fabric, yarn, needles and a little Christmassy surprise. Just send your finished fabric back to the museum using the stamped envelopes provided in the package.
